GSC appointed by the Owners and P&I Club for a stranded general cargo vessel in Russia
The Owners and their P&I Club appointed GSC to assist them with a grounded general cargo vessel at the Island Iturup, one of the Kuril Islands in the Russian Far East. The casualty stranded during severe stormy conditions. The 107 meter long, 8037 DWT freighter went stranded while she was attempting to seek shelter from typhoon Wipha.

Various new cases for GSC
GSC Salvage Master dispatched to collision case in the Kiel Canal.
On the 28th of October MV SIDERFLY, while transiting through the channel, collided with MT CORAL IVERY. The MV SIDERLY was in danger of sinking and listing 45 degrees to port in the morning. Both lock pairs in Kiel and Brunsbüttel were closed after the accident. The bulbous bow of the tanker had caused two leaks in the MV SIDERLY. The vessel was pushed onto the embankment and Salvors tried to stabilize it. Oil booms were laid out. Singapore based salvage company T&T Salvage obtained the LOF Contract together with German based Bugsier and appointed GSC to provide a Salvage Master from their Dutch office in Vijfhuizen.

GSC Consultants appointed by Owners P&I Club of wrecked MV SMART in South Africa
The Owners P&I Club appointed GSC to assist with the on-site representation as well as to guide and assist them with the tender process. The MV SMART experienced problems upon leaving the port of Richards Bay, drifted passed the breakwater, struck bottom and grounded. She broke into two sections within days and the conditions are presently further deteriorating.

Two new wreck removal cases in the Far East
GSC has been appointed by one of the P&I Clubs in a collision case on the Yangtze River in China. One of the vessel sank due to the obtained collision damages and requires to be removed.

GSC Consultant attending to Container Vessel on fire
While on the way from Singapore to Durban, MV HANSA BRANDENBURG experienced an explosion in her cargo hold no 5, resulting in an extensive fire. The Master decided to abandon the casualty after it appeared to be too dangerous to fight the fire. Salvors were appointed on LOF terms and managed to extinguish the fire after which the casualty was towed to Port Louis, Mauritius. GSC was appointed by the Owners and their Hull & Machinery Underwriters to advise in this matter and did send one of their Salvage Consultants to the site.

GSC working in West Africa
GSC provided a Salvage Consultant / Master to Singapore based Salvors T&T Salvage to assist the Master and Crew of a grounded bulk-carrier off Duala, Cameroun. Two powerful anchor handling supply tugs were provided by Swire Pacific and the second attempt worked out to be successful.

Bulk Carrier aground in Indonesia
While on her maiden voyage, Bulk Carrier KANOURA ran aground off the island Sulawsi in Indonesia. GSC was appointed by the P&I Club to advise on the possible refloating options.

Busy month in the Far East
On the 1st of March a General Cargo ship, (1996 gt, built 2005) en-route from Akita Port to Muroran Port, ran aground near Iwasaki, Japan, due to strong winds and high waves. All crew members were rescued. GSC was called in to assist by providing a Salvage Consultant to inspect, evaluate and advise the Owners and their P&I Club on possible ways to salvage the casualty.

GSC Salvage Consultant dispatched for grounded 4500 TEU container vessel.
GSC Salvage Consultant dispatched by Owners for a 4500 TEU container vessel aground in the port entrance of Alexandria, Egypt. The vessel could be refloated without any off loading of containers.
