GSC Consultant attending to Container Vessel on fire
While on the way from Singapore to Durban, MV HANSA BRANDENBURG experienced an explosion in her cargo hold no 5, resulting in an extensive fire. The Master decided to abandon the casualty after it appeared to be too dangerous to fight the fire. Salvors were appointed on LOF terms and managed to extinguish the fire after which the casualty was towed to Port Louis, Mauritius. GSC was appointed by the Owners and their Hull & Machinery Underwriters to advise in this matter and did send one of their Salvage Consultants to the site.
In addition, GSC was requested to provide advice to the Yemen based YLNG company regarding a grounded motor / product tanker. A GSC Salvage Consultant was flown in from The Netherlands to assess the situation and to advice on the status of the casualty / possible options to refloat her.
